Joyce is a born and raised San Franciscan. Daughter of a real estate agent and mechanical engineer, Joyce grew up in "The City" until she ran far from home...well, just down to Los Angeles to study to UCLA.
As a college freshman, she joined the ensemble of the "hereandnow" theater group, a touring Asian American theater troupe dedicated to portraying issues relevant to the Asian American college community. In an attempt to be "practical," Joyce pursued doctoral studies at both the Universities of Wisconsin and Hawai'i and received a master's degree in clinical psychology from the University of Wisconsin.
She then moved to the second largest theater city in America, Washington, DC, where she re-ignited her passion for the dramatic arts. She studied at the Studio Theater Conservatory, working mostly in independent films, industrials, and regional commercials. Joyce also received critical acclaim for her performance as "Angela" in Horizon Theater's original production of "The Body Project."
In the spring of 2007, she went on a whim with a friend to the open call for "I Wanna be a Soap Star." Not expecting to make it past the first audition, she beat out thousands of actors to land one of the 10 coveted spots in the 2007 season.
Following IWBASS, Joyce has performed on stage in the Ovation-winning play, "Film Chinois," and in sketch comedy, independent shorts and feature films. Joyce's home is the stage, where she is a company member of Lodestone Theatre and a guest artist with the Company of Angels, Grove Theater Center and Brimmer Street Theater groups. |
